Out of all the body organs, the brain is our most important organ and the first organ impacted by prolonged substance abuse. Drugs interfere with the way neurotransmitters process, release signals within the brain, and the chemicals the brain produces and releases, such as dopamine, which induces pleasurable activities. The over-usage of drugs results in the lowered natural production of the chemical, causing an individual to develop a strong desire for consuming more drugs. Behavioral changes can also occur because of the substance on the brain. Attempts to stop using the drugs may cause the individual to have increased cravings or feel ill from withdrawal.
At Avatar Drugs and Alcohol Recovery Center, our major drug rehab and specialized therapy center, we adopted a new approach for understanding drug addiction and recovery to attain sustainable recovery. We recognize the importance of examining everyone on a case-by-case basis to develop the best possible treatment plan to overcome substance abuse.
